Uganda, Kenya Launch Fourth Coast Tourism Conference to Spotlight Youth, Innovation and Technology
Uganda’s Consulate-General in Mombasa, in partnership with leading tourism stakeholders from both Uganda and Kenya, has officially launched the fourth Uganda-Kenya Coast Tourism Conference, Exhibition and Familiarisation Trip, set to run from October 27–29, 2025, at the Ocean Beach Resort & Spa in Malindi, Kilifi County.
This year’s edition, themed “Leveraging Youth, Innovation & Technology for Responsive & Inclusive Tourism,” aims to harness the energy and creativity of young people in shaping the future of the tourism industry.
Speaking at the launch on Wednesday, Amb. Paul Mukumbya, Uganda’s Consul General in Mombasa, stressed that the initiative is rooted in partnership and complementarity rather than competition. He noted the event’s steady growth — from 200 delegates in 2022 to a projected 750 participants this year.
“The theme reflects the role of youth in driving tourism through innovation and technology,” Mukumbya said. “Young people possess a natural affinity for emerging technologies and are often at the forefront of creating and adapting new solutions.”
Kilifi County Governor Gideon Mung’aro, who graced the launch, applauded the entrepreneurial spirit of youth, which has led to the rise of tech-enabled startups, sustainable tourism initiatives, and smart hospitality concepts across the region. He added that these innovations are not only improving visitor experiences but also contributing to environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and economic empowerment.
The event also featured a special appearance by Ugandan-born singer and tourism brand ambassador Akothee, alongside officials from the Kenya Tourism Board, Uganda Airlines, and leading tour operators.
Dorcus Rukundo Twesigomwe, Business Development Manager at the Uganda Wildlife Authority, urged Ugandans to embrace the opportunity to connect with Kenya’s vibrant travel industry. She revealed that the number of Kenyan visitors to Ugandan national parks has doubled in recent years, highlighting the potential for cross-border tourism growth.
“This platform offers immense opportunities for young professionals and students who want to explore careers in tourism, hospitality, and conservation,” she noted.
The conference will be preceded by a familiarisation trip for Ugandan stakeholders to the Kenya Coast (Oct. 22–26) and a golf tournament at Vipingo Ridge on Oct. 25. Uganda Airlines has pledged special discounted rates for registered participants.
A major highlight of the launch was the unveiling of the official online registration portal for delegates.
