Gen. Katumba Wamala sacked, replaced by Gen. Muhoozi
President Yoweri Museveni has fired Gen. Katumba Wamala as Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). Gen. David Muhoozi, has been promoted to the rank of full General, treat and appointed the new CDF.
A statement signed by the UPDF Spokesperson Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda, and forwarded by the Uganda Media Centre to The Sunrise said that Gen. Katumba has been seconded to government for appointment as deputy minister of works.
Gen. Katumba’s sacking comes in the wake of comments attributed to him that he was not involved in the attack on the Rwenzululu that saw over 100 people killed.
If Gen. Katumba’s sacking as CDF and appointment to a laser prominent role of Deputy Works Minister is not enough to show his boss’s displeasure with him in the aftermath of the Rwenzululu operation, the promotion of Brig. Peter Elwelu to Maj. General will provide better clues.
Maj. Gen. Wilson Mbadi has been elevated to Lt. Gen. and appointed new Deputy C.D.F. Mbadi has replaced Lt. Gen. Charles Angina who now becomes Deputy Operation Wealth Creation Commander.
Maj. Gen. Muhozi Kainerugaba, who has been the Commander of the Special Forces Commande (SFC) has been moved to Senior Presidential Advisor of special operations.
Lt. Col. Don Nabasa, who has been deputising Muhoozi as SFC, has been promoted to full Colonel and appointed acting commander of SFC.
Brig. Elweru, who led the attack on King Mumbere’s palace in Kasese recently, promoted to Maj. Gen and becomes the new Commander Land Forces.
Chief of Military Intelligence Brigadier Charles Bakahumura has been promoted to the lucrative and sensitive Chief of Logistics and Engineering and replaced by Col. Abel Kandiho while Brig Mugyenyi has been appointed Commander Air Defence.
