Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi has on Friday, held a face-to-face meeting with President Museveni at State House in Entebbe.

The meeting was attended by Buganda Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga and Prince David Wasajja.

Details of the discussions are still scanty but close sources said the meeting was to diffuse increasing tribal tensions between the Mengo establishment and the Banyala and Baruuli on the other hand.

The President, symptoms in a brief statement, thanked the Kabaka for paying him a courtesy call at State House, Entebbe.

There has been rising tensions as a result of continued demand by the Baruuli and the Banyala on the other hand for autonomy from the Mengo establishment.

The tensions have been characterised by sharp exchanges that at some point have threatened to slide into violence.

In 2009 violence broke out in parts of Buganda after police blocked Katikiro JB Walusimbi from travelling to Kayunga District ahead of the Kabaka’s visit.

Government claimed that it had obtained intelligence information indicating that the Kabaka’s life was in danger after a section of Banyala had threatened to block the visit.

At least 29 people were killed in demonstrations that spread across much of Buganda.

Kayunga is predominantly composed of Banyala, a Bantu ethnic group in the Buganda region.
