Huawei gives UGX250m for expectant mothers
Huawei Uganda, the local chapter of the Chinese telecommunications conglomerate has boosted the 2019 edition of the MTN Kampala Marathon with a UGX250 million cheque. The company said this is their contribution to this year’s MTN Marathon whose aim is to improve maternal health across the country.
The confirmation and official cheque handover ceremony took place at Huawei Uganda offices at The Cube building, Kisementi in Kampala this week.
The 2019 edition of the MTN Kampala Marathon will be held on November 24 starting at Kololo Independence grounds with runners participating in one of 4 categories including; Full marathon (42km), Half marathon (21km), 10km race and 5km wheel chair race/fun run.
While handing over the cheque, Huawei Uganda Managing Director Liujiawei confirmed that they (Huawei) will fully participate in this year’s marathon at Kololo and regional runs of Soroti, Arua and Masaka respectively.
“I confirm that we look forward to participate as a company through branding, we shall give away some goodies to the participants and also have our representatives in regional runs,” said Liujiawei.
Liujiawei further expressed a feeling that Huawei’s continued support towards maternal healthcare will soon solve all maternal health care challenge.
“One out of every 49 women in Uganda die of maternal complications. We at Huawei believe that this issue can be solved and make Uganda a better place for pregnant mothers. This then explains why we have come out to continue sponsoring this marathon, we are sure that with this contribution, Uganda can only be a better place,” Liujiawei said.
The MTN Chief Marketing Officer, Sen Somdev hailed Huawei for its partnership and continued support towards the MTN marathon over the years.
“MTN Uganda lauds Huawei for its enthusiasm to respond to the call to ensure that the Marathon continues to be a resounding success and a channel to support communities in need, with Huawei’s involvement, we have positively impacted communities from the proceeds raised from the MTN Kampala marathon,” said Somdev.
More than 250 Huawei staff have also confirmed participation in the 2019 MTN Kampala Marathon.
