DP’s Nabukenya wins hotly contested Luwero by-election
Nabukenya was declared winner of the Luweero district woman MP by-election at dawn of Friday by the Luweero district returning officer Alex Komuhangi at Luweero district headquarters.
Nabukenya gunnered 38, 236 votes.
Nabukenya’s victory will be a reality check for President Museveni and his ruling NRM party after the president camped for two days in the district and campaigned hard for Nalwanga.
Luwero has been a stronghold for the NRM since Museveni came to power 28 years ago. But the population of Luwero who lost loved ones more than any other region in the five-year war that brought Museveni to power have grown angry for poor service delivery.
The opposition will also look at the race as further confirmation that rallying behind one joint candidate as they did in Luwero, is a winning strategy.
