Microsoft starts process to phase out Nokia

Microsoft has started a process to drop the Nokia name after it released its first Lumia smartphone, the move seems to have moved bit faster with a new release [Lumia 535].

The new model is the first Lumia smartphone under Microsoft’s own brand name.

The move, according to analysts, will be a breakaway from the buy deal since Microsoft had said it would keep the Nokia name for at least 10 years.

Microsoft has already implemented a process that will see its entire social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter, among others changed to Microsoft Lumia before the end of the year.

The company last month said it would start implementing the change in France.

Microsoft acquired Nokia’s mobile phone operations in April in a deal worth $7.2b about (about Shs19 trillion).

Nokia’s non-mobile division, which is not owned by Microsoft, will continue to use the name.

The Lumia 535 is expected to go on sale this month. Microsoft didn’t announce any U.S. plans.
