The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abas Byakagaba, has named Superintendent of Police (SP) Racheal Kawala as the new Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Kampala Metropolitan area. Before this appointment, Kawala served as the spokesperson for the Wamala Region. She now takes over from Patrick Onyango, who has been reassigned to the Chief Political Commissariat (CPC) as a staff officer.

Onyango confirmed that he had been notified of the transfer but was still awaiting further clarification. “I am waiting for clear information about my transfer and the aligned duties,” he said, noting that he had not yet received an official transfer message.

Following Kawala’s move, her former role in the Wamala Region will be filled by Lameck Kigozi. Kigozi, who was the Deputy Regional Police Commander for the Kidepo Region, was transferred to the CPC in February last year.

As the new Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Kawala will oversee communication for more than 20 policing divisions across the districts of Kampala, Wakiso, and Mukono. These include Central Police Station (CPS), Old Kampala, Wandegeya, Kawempe, Jinja Road, Kabalagala, Katwe, Nateete, and Kira Road.

Her portfolio also covers divisions such as Kasangati, Nansana, Kakiri, Wakiso, Nsangi, Kajjansi, Entebbe, Kira Division, Naggalama, and Mukono. Meanwhile, colleagues and members of the media in the Wamala Region which encompasses Mityana, Kassanda, Mubende, Kiboga, and Kyankwanzi districts, have begun planning a farewell event in her honor.
