Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested three men suspected of belonging to a gang accused of targeting people carrying large amounts of money on motorcycles in different parts of Kampala.

The arrests follow investigations into a robbery in which a cashier working for Tilupati was reportedly attacked while travelling to a bank with cash.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident happened on August 17, 2026, along Bukoto Heights. Two people travelling on a motorcycle allegedly confronted the cashier and took a bag containing about Shs22 million before fleeing.

The case was reported at Kira Road Police Station, prompting investigations into the people believed to have been involved.

Police said two suspects were arrested on September 19, 2026, and one motorcycle allegedly connected to the robberies was recovered.

A third suspect was arrested on September 24, with two more motorcycles recovered during the operation.

The suspects have been identified by police as Byanyima Sadic, Waibale Joseph and Kisongode Ivan. Police allege that the three acted as motorcycle riders during the robberies.

Investigators are examining their possible connection to other similar incidents in Kampala.

According to preliminary police investigations, the suspects are also being linked to a robbery reported in Mpererwe in January 2026, in which about Shs10 million was allegedly stolen from a person who had been carrying money from a bank.

Police also said the group is being investigated in connection with another robbery involving a Nigerian national near the US Embassy area on August 24, 2026.

The allegations remain subject to ongoing police investigations.

Police have so far recovered four motorcycles they believe may have been used by the suspected gang.

The motorcycles are registered as: UMA 366LZ, UMA 018MX, UMA 073NP, UMA 018NX.

Police said all four motorcycles are of the Haojue make.

Investigators are continuing to establish how the motorcycles were allegedly used in the reported robberies and whether other people were involved.

Kampala Metropolitan Police said the three arrested men may not have acted alone.

According to investigators, other suspected members of the group are still at large and efforts are underway to locate them and establish their alleged roles in the reported crimes.

The three suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Police said they will be taken to court after the necessary inquiries have been completed.

Police have also urged members of the public to remain alert, particularly when carrying large amounts of cash, and to report suspicious people or activities to the nearest police station.

The arrests form part of ongoing police operations targeting criminal groups accused of robbing people carrying money and other valuables in Kampala.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said investigations into the suspects and their alleged associates are continuing.
