Chinese supports Uganda in containing Ebola in Eastern DR. Congo
A courtesy call by the Chinese Ambassador to the Minister of Health Jane Ruth Aceng today turned into a promising moment for Uganda, especially in view of efforts to contain the Ebola in neighbouring D.R Congo.
Dr. Aceng, who was received the Chinese delegation that had visited some high risk district on the Western Uganda border, asked the Chinese government to support Uganda’s four priority areas of ; building a Centre for Disease control, Mobile PCR lab and Border health support.
The Chinese Ambassador Zheng Zhu Qiang informed the Health Minister that they have taken note of their key priorities and challenges but will forward the request to their headquarters in Beijing for a decision to be taken.
Zheng said: “Hon. Minister, you a right about Ebola screening because the Ebola outbreak in DRC has coincided with elections so we need to have a combination of interventions. We shall raise our request to our government back home,” Zheng said.
