Ex-Kampala Mayor Sebaana Kizito passes on
The former two-time Mayor of Kampala City John Sebaana Kizito died this morning after spending two weeks in the intensive care section of Nakasero hospital in Kampala. DP President General Norbert Mao and close friends have confirmed Sebaana’s passing.
Sebaana’s death comes after more than two years of repeated incidences of strokes that rendered the former politician, businessman immobilised.
Sebaana’s death will be felt near not only because of his longtime political career as Museveni’s minister but also as Kampala Mayor. His deep links to businesses including Statewide insurance, Buganda’s CBS FM radio. He was also one of Kampala’s recognised propertied individuals.
Eulogies for Sebaana have started coming in including from Buganda’s Katikkiro (Premier) Charles Peter Mayiga, who described the late as a very loyal person towards Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.
Mayiga said: “Owek Ssebaana Kizito abadde mwesimbu nnyo eri Ssaabasajja Kabaka ne Buganda; abadde Mukiise wa Lukiiko omujjumbize; abadde ayagala nnyo Ekika kye eky’Emmamba; abadde ssentebe w’olukiiko lw’emipiira gy’Ebika; abadde atuula ku nkiiko za kkampuni z’Obwakabaka; munnabizineesi omukugu; munnabyabufuzi eyeesigika; mukwano gwaffe ffenna. Gusinze ayi Ssaabasajja Kabaka.” Mayiga said.
DP President General Mao also posted on his Party’s Twitter account saying: “Rest in Peace President Emeritus Dr John Ssebaana Kizito. You emphatically loved Brain Power at play in the game of politics.”
Sebaana’s death comes hot on the heels of the party’s former Secretary General, Mathias Nsubuga who also died due to a massive stroke in December last year. The party also lost its prominent lawyer Edward Muguluma last month.
Former DP strong woman Maria Mutagamba who crossed to the ruling NRM party also passed away last week.
