No old voter cards in 2016 elections – EC warns

The Electoral Commission has warned voters that it will not allow anyone to vote on the basis on an old voters card because the document was degazetted.

The warning came as the electoral body urged the general public to verify their names on the new voters’ register before the May 4, 2015 deadline for the display of the new register.

Eng. Badru Kiggundu, EC Chairman said the old Voters Cards will not be used for purposes of elections since it is was retired and degazetted.

Kiggundu said they have extended the display of the voters register for verification purposes from April 30th to May 4, 2015. The display started on March 7th 2015, due to a higher number of applicants at the update Centre.

Kiggundu added that the extension will allow the National Youth Voters Register for Election of youth Councils/Committees, the professional bodies Register for Election of Representatives to Kampala Capital City Authority [KCCA], The UPDF Register for Election of Representatives to Parliament, The National PWDs Voters Register of Election of PWD Councils/ Committees and The National Older persons, Voters Register of older persons Councils/ Committee.

Dr Kiggundu further added that the commission has made some changes to the road map to the electoral commission.

Also, the display of Youth, PWDs, and Older Persons Registers in each village will end on Thursday July 9 2015.

Nomination of candidates for village Youth, PWD’s and Older Persons Elections will end on Friday July 3rd 2015 and Campaigns for village Youth, PWD’s and Older Persons which started on Friday July 17th 2015 will end on Wednesday September 9th 2015.
