Female artistes in Uganda have been advised to front their talents when approaching music promoters, talent managers, media personalities and disc jokers with regard to promoting their Art.

During a panel discussion on how artistes can use resources around to create their own publicity at the Doa doa Festival, Musa Ssemwanga, one of the panelists advised musician Clarisa Nabulime to use her sexiness when approaching male media personalities for air play.

“You are lucky you are a woman and most presenters in Uganda are male so that is an advantage. You make sure you are beautiful, come dressed well. That is the easiest way to bribe them.” Ssemwanga advised.

This created an argument that saw Benjamin, a representative from South Africa advice that there is need to change the attitudes because if female artistes end up throwing themselves at male promoters it will only distort their talent

Dorothy Nabunjo the moderator of the session tasked artistes to boldly present their work regardless of their looks.

“I need to see more of the Clarisas who go out there and say no it’s not about my body, my looks but what I can bring to the table.”

Independent performers were advised to identify what they stand for make research on PR Marketing, know which platforms, who to connect and collaborate with at affordable costs.
