Housing Finance Bank Empowers Uganda’s SMEs with Business Clinic and Green Financing Initiatives

Housing Finance Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to Uganda’s economic transformation by hosting the second edition of its Business Clinic series—an initiative designed to strengthen the capacity of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) operating in high-impact sectors.

Building on the success of the inaugural session that focused on empowering women entrepreneurs, this latest edition expanded its reach to include a broader range of SMEs, with a special emphasis on renewable energy, affordable housing, agribusiness, and technology-enabled enterprises. The event was held at the Bank’s Head Office in Kololo and attracted a diverse group of business owners, industry experts, and development partners.

Speaking at the event, Michael Mugabi, Managing Director of Housing Finance Bank, highlighted the critical role of SMEs in driving inclusive economic growth and innovation.

“When we empower SMEs, we are not only investing in individual success stories; we are accelerating Uganda’s transformation,” said Mugabi. “Through initiatives like the Business Clinic, we continue to equip enterprises with the tools they need to thrive, reflecting our commitment to walking the journey with Uganda’s business community.”

The Business Clinic delivered practical insights into navigating access to finance, managing operations, and building sustainable business models tailored to the Ugandan context. It also served as a platform to launch a strategic partnership between Housing Finance Bank and the Uganda Green Enterprise Finance Accelerator (UGEFA), an initiative supported by the European Union.

The partnership introduces innovative financial products such as flexible SME loans and dedicated Green Financing, aimed at supporting eco-conscious micro and small businesses. This is part of the Bank’s broader mission to align its services with Uganda’s Vision 2040 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

In a notable highlight, Housing Finance Bank showcased its collaboration with Easy Housing, a company pioneering low-cost, sustainable housing solutions using eco-friendly materials and rapid-construction technologies. Through bespoke financing options, the Bank is enabling developers to scale affordable housing projects while adhering to green building standards.

The Bank also unveiled its Partial Repayment Scheme, which offers a grant covering up to 33% of the loan principal—an innovative solution designed to lower financing barriers and boost sustainable investment.

Housing Finance Bank’s Business Clinic and new green finance solutions signal a strategic shift toward inclusive, environmentally responsible banking, ensuring that Uganda’s entrepreneurs are well-equipped to lead the country’s economic and social transformation.
