Bishop Bamwoze’s wife to buried at Bugembe Cathedral

Busoga is in grief following the sudden demise of Maama Naomi Bamwoze, the wife to the first Bishop of Busoga Diocese Cyprian Kikuni Bamwoze.
Mrs Bamwoze who has been battling with several illnesses for some time alongside her husband Dr Bamwoze succumbed to cardiac arrest at Mulago heart institute this morning.
A close relative to the family of Bishop Bamwoze, Stephen Muwanguzi says the deceased was first rushed to Jinja regional referral hospital on Monday before being referred to Mulago hospital on Wednesday evening where she breathed her last Thursday morning.
“She has been complaining of failing health for sometime until this week when family members
decided to take her for medication” Muwanguzi said.
According to Alex Luganda, a relative, the body has been transferred by A Plus Funeral services from Mulago hospital to Mengo hospital from where it will be moved on Friday to Kamuli for an overnight vigil.
“On Saturday, the body will be moved to Bugembe where it will also spend a night at cathedral for vigil before being buried on Sunday at the cathedral” Luganda noted after a closed planning meeting at
Bishop’s Nateete home.
At Bugembe cathedral, the vicar Rev Matthias Katiko, the Diocesan Secretary Rev Canon David Kaluya and some family members holding numerous meetings to avail the right space to bury Mrs Bamwoze.
Naomi has been married to Bishop Bamwoze since 1988 after the latter lost his wife Beatrice Bamwoze with who he had six children.
She has been instrumental in mobilizing women to work and serve God in 2013; the couple celebrated 25 years in marriage and 80th birth day anniversary of the retired Bishop.
Bishop Bamwoze was the first bishop of Busoga diocese upon its split from Namirembe diocese from 1972 to 1999 when he retired amid protests from the Christians.
The current and third Bishop of Busoga Rt Rev Paul Samson Moses Naimanhye, describes the death of Maama Naomi as a tragedy and a catastrophe to the aging Bishop Bamwoze.
“There is nothing I can say apart from praying for my Father because surely our mother has been stronger than him and taking full care whenever he fell sick. What then will happen after the care taker is gone. Let God Himself manifest in all and grant our mother eternal peace” Bishop Naimanhye said.
