The Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Monica Musenero, has said that planned power outages being experienced in different parts of Uganda are a result of ongoing upgrades, rehabilitation and expansion of the country's electricity transmission and distribution networks.

Addressing the media on the status of electricity supply across the country, Dr. Musenero explained that the planned outages are expected to continue until August 8, 2026, as work on critical electricity infrastructure progresses.

She said the interruptions are temporary but necessary to ensure the safety of both the public and workers carrying out the infrastructure upgrades.

The Minister also outlined measures the Government is implementing to improve the reliability of electricity supply. These include replacing and upgrading ageing transformers, increasing investment in preventive maintenance across the electricity network, and acquiring mobile substations to provide temporary electricity supply during major maintenance works.

Dr. Musenero further called on the public to help protect electricity infrastructure by reporting and preventing acts of vandalism, noting that vandalism remains a significant cause of power outages in some parts of the country.

She reaffirmed the Government's commitment to strengthening Uganda's electricity network to deliver a safer, more reliable and resilient power supply nationwide.
