Anne Juuko has stepped down from her position as Regional Head for Global Markets - East Africa at Standard Bank Group, with her resignation taking effect at the end of November 2025. She had taken up the regional assignment in April 2024, meaning she served in the post for roughly one year and eight months. Her mandate covered seven markets, including South Sudan, [the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, and Zambia.

Juuko’s departure concludes about 13 years with Stanbic Bank Uganda and the wider Standard Bank Group. Before her regional role, she served as Managing Director and CEO of Stanbic Bank Uganda from March 2020 to end of March 2024. She became the first woman to lead Uganda’s largest commercial bank, succeeding Patrick Mweheire.

Her leadership coincided with the COVID-19 period, during which the bank remained profitable. 

The bank also expanded financing and training for smallholder farmers. Its Sacco support programme, introduced in 2021, has since enrolled thousands of groups representing a membership base of more than one million people and mobilized deposits exceeding Shs 200 billion. Over Shs 80 billion in credit has been extended, supported by partners such as Abi Trust and Operation Wealth Creation. The initiative has aligned with the government’s Parish Development Model.

In 2022, Stanbic partnered with the International Finance Corporation to introduce Stanbic4Her, a programme dedicated to women-led enterprises. Under this initiative, thousands of women entrepreneurs, many new to banking have accessed financing at a 15.5% interest rate, alongside financial literacy training.

Juuko holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Makerere University and a Master’s degree in Strategic Planning from Heriot-Watt Business School in Edinburgh, Scotland.
