The Embassy of Sweden in Kampala has announced that, starting March 2, 2026, it will no longer handle or respond to inquiries regarding migration matters for Ugandan nationals or residence permit holders. This includes questions related to long-term visas, work permits, residence permits, and other migration services.

According to the official notice, Ugandans seeking migration assistance should now contact the Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi, Kenya for all relevant inquiries. This change affects both Ugandan nationals applying for Swedish residence or work permits and those who already hold Swedish residence permits.

While the relocation of services may require applicants to coordinate directly with Nairobi, short-stay Schengen visa applications remain available in Kampala. These applications continue to be submitted through VFS Global, the visa application center that manages logistics and biometric collection on behalf of the embassy.

The embassy emphasized that all migration-related requests for Ugandans will be processed exclusively in Nairobi from March 2, 2026. Applicants are encouraged to plan ahead and use official contact channels to ensure timely submission of documents. The official websites of both the Kampala and Nairobi embassies provide the most up-to-date guidance on migration procedures, application forms, and contact information.

This move clarifies which services remain accessible locally in Kampala and which require coordination with Nairobi, allowing applicants to make informed decisions about travel, document submission, and planning their migration process. Other consular services unrelated to migration, including document legalization and consular assistance, continue to be available at the Embassy of Sweden in Kampala.

For Ugandans intending to study, work, or relocate to Sweden, the embassy’s notice underscores the importance of verifying the correct embassy for all migration matters. Ensuring that inquiries and applications are directed to the Swedish Embassy in Nairobi will help applicants receive accurate guidance and avoid delays.
