In a warmer climate, Uganda would benefit from GM technology
The latest piece of evidence to support the adoption of modern plant breeding technology has emerged from a study about the current and projected impact of climate change on Uganda over the coming 15 years.
The conducted by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) reveals that projected increases in temperature of up to 2 degrees, coupled with rainfall variability, will negatively impact on yields of at least eight of Uganda’s top crops including Coffee and Plantains (matooke) which are the source of livelihood of majority of Ugandan farmers.
