The Uganda Police Force has officially opened the Oyam Police Health Centre II, a facility designed to provide healthcare services to both police personnel and the surrounding community. Health Centre II facilities typically offer basic outpatient care, antenatal services, community outreach, and immunization programs, serving as the primary point of entry into the health system.
The centre began operations on September 17, 2025, and was formally inaugurated on October 13, 2025, following renovations of the old structures. The UGX 3.6 million refurbishment transformed a single room into a fully functional healthcare facility. Currently, the centre operates with two health workers, with plans to evaluate patient demand and expand staffing as necessary.
Dr. Emmanuel Nuwamanya, Deputy Director of Uganda Police Health Services, who commissioned the facility, emphasized that health is a security concern. He underscored the police’s dedication to establishing health facilities nationwide to ensure timely care for both officers and civilians.
Addressing concerns about charges for post-mortems and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) examinations, Dr. Nuwamanya explained, “The doctors who carried out such services are compensated through a structured allowance system of UGX 50,000 per post-mortem and UGX 25,000 per SGBV case and are expected to submit monthly reports for reimbursement through the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (OCCID).”
Patrick Jimmy Okema, North Kyoga Regional Police Public Relations Officer, added that the health centre aims to support police officers, their families, and the wider community.
Daniel Ayo, Secretary for Health in Oyam Town Council, noted that the facility will enhance healthcare access in the area. Before its opening, residents relied solely on Anyeke Health Centre IV, the only government-run facility in the town council, which frequently struggled to keep up with rising demand.
