Made in Uganda Kayoola E-Coach Completes Historic 13,700 km ‘Pearl to Cape’ Electric Expedition Across Africa
Kiira Motors Corporation has made history with the successful completion of the Made in Uganda “Pearl to Cape” Electric Expedition 2025, a groundbreaking 13,700-kilometer journey from Kampala, Uganda to Cape Town, South Africa. The expedition, led by the Kayoola E‑Coach 13M 2025, the “King of the African Highway,” traversed six nations, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, Eswatini, and South Africa, demonstrating Africa’s potential in heavy-duty electric mobility.
The mission marked a significant milestone for green technology and industrial innovation in Africa, showcasing the efficiency and reliability of the Kayoola E-Coach, which achieved 0.79 kWh per kilometer and prevented over 5.8 tonnes of carbon emissions. The expedition also symbolically bridged the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), positioning Uganda as a leader in sustainable transportation.
Kiira Motors CEO Paul Isaac Musasizi credited the expedition’s success to both divine guidance and strong partnerships. He acknowledged the Government of Uganda, President Yoweri Museveni, the National Enterprise Corporation, Makerere University, corporate partners like MTN Uganda and Britam, as well as a dedicated expedition crew and support teams across Africa.
MTN Uganda played a crucial role in enabling real-time telematics and cross-border digital payments, highlighting the importance of integrating digital infrastructure with electric mobility. Makerere University and Technology Consults were instrumental in research, development, and construction of Africa’s largest electric bus manufacturing plant, the Kiira Vehicle Plant in Jinja.
The expedition, conducted from November 20 to December 28, 2025, faced challenging terrains across multiple African countries. Yet, the Kayoola E-Coach successfully demonstrated the continent’s capability for locally designed, heavy-duty electric transport solutions.
“This is only the beginning,” CEO Musasizi stated. “The future of Africa is electric, and together, we are building it.” The success of the Pearl to Cape expedition reinforces Uganda’s vision for industrialization, innovation, and sustainable mobility, and sets a global example for the continent’s homegrown technological advancement.
