A tragic road crash in Lapok Mor Village, Nwoya District has claimed the lives of seven people following a head-on collision involving a passenger bus and a trailer in the early hours of Monday, May 4, 2026.

The accident occurred at approximately 1:15 AM and involved an Isuzu bus, registration number UBP 736U, belonging to Nile Star Coaches, and a Benz Actros trailer with registration SSD 040A/SSD 498C.

According to preliminary findings, the bus was traveling from Arua when the driver attempted to overtake two vehicles ahead. During the maneuver, the bus collided head-on with an oncoming trailer.

Four passengers died instantly at the scene, while sixteen others sustained injuries and were rushed to Anak Hospital for treatment. Authorities later confirmed that three of the injured victims succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total number of fatalities to seven.

The bus driver, identified as Abugo Mandella Kadin, is currently in police custody as investigations into the crash continue.

Eyewitnesses onboard the bus reported that the driver had been driving recklessly throughout the journey. Passengers who raised concerns about the driver’s behavior were allegedly ignored, with the conductor dismissing their warnings instead of taking action.

The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and the enforcement of transport regulations, particularly regarding reckless driving and passenger protection on long-distance routes.
