Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has met leaders of Nation Media Group (NMG) Uganda as discussions continue over the closure of the company's media outlets, including NTV Uganda and the Daily Monitor.

According to a statement shared by Acting UPDF/Defence Public Information Director Col. Chris Magezi, the meeting was held at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe.

The meeting was attended by Nation Media Group owner Rostam Aziz and his son, Saam Aziz, as well as Georgia Mutagaywa, Chief of Staff at Taarifa Limited, which Col. Magezi identified as the parent organization of NMG. Veteran journalist and Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) leader Andrew Mwenda also attended the discussions.

The engagement comes days after security agencies closed Nation Media Group Uganda premises following directives issued by Gen. Muhoozi.

According to Col. Magezi, discussions during the meeting focused on concerns raised by the government regarding the media group's coverage and reporting. He said examples of reporting considered problematic by government officials were reviewed during the talks.

Col. Magezi further stated that NMG's ownership committed to pursuing what he described as a more patriotic, balanced and objective approach to journalism.

The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to resolve the standoff between the media group and government authorities.

Following the discussions, Gen. Muhoozi announced on his social media platforms that he would submit a report to President Yoweri Museveni for consideration before a final decision is made regarding the reopening of the media company's premises.
