Malaysia, Saudi Arabia building centre to teach peace

Malaysia’s Ministry of Defence in collaboration with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recently reached an agreement on establishing an international centre for Peace studies.

This was emerged after a meeting between Malaysia’s Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammudeen Hussein and Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary General of Muslim World League in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.

The centre will be named the King Salman Center for International Peace.

Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Issa, told a news conference in Kuala Lumpur that the centre will champion an ideological campaign to try to enhancement of positive image about Islam.

Both parties agreed to coordinate so as to ensure that they complete necessary arrangements for implementing the launch process of the Center within ninety (90) days from the announcement date.

Furthermore, they indicated the harmony towards the vision, message, values and objectives of the Centre based on the objectives of the two countries for the Center’s inception.

It was agreed that the Muslim World League would support intellectual, academic and research course for the Center, as well as providing it with the academically qualified personnel, who should augment the military experience in its intellectual and explorative dimension.

The two sides confirmed the concept of moderation as well as enhancing the positive image of Islam in people’s minds in order to confront the negative suspicions raised against it.

“This must go together with deepening the religious awareness among Muslims and combat the ideology of extremism and terrorism, in order to cement the concept of peace,” the MWL said in a statement.
