Most sought-after vocalist you didn’t know
Angel Adio is one of the keys behind the success of Uganda’s top musicians. Her sweet sound have graced the tracks of dozens of our best artists in recent years. When you hear her sing, you probably think the American songstress Stevie Nicks is behind the wall. Her vocal abilities have not only opened doors for collaborations with big names in the industry, but she has also become a highly sought-after character for vocal training, as well as providing backup support for live bands performances.
Born to the late Yosiah Eriu and Naomi Masanja Eriu, Angel Adio was raised by Pastor Samuel Okadi of Nsambya following the passing of her parents while she was a kid.
She went to Nsambya Police Nursery and Primary school and Railway children primary school in Nsambya for her primary, Young Christian school for her O-Level ,Lugazi comprehensive for her A-level and Universal institute of graphics and technology where she pursued a diploma in graphics , computer repair and maintenance.
The self-proclaimed black queen was inspired by her family to venture into singing after spotting her impeccable talent when she participated in Sunday school choirs at Agape Dimensions Church in Najjanankumbi.
“My family loved music. My mother was the secretary for women at the women entertainment group. She used to organize and host people at home, play loud music they danced to. Musical equipments were kept at our home so they used to practice from home.”
Besides, Adio’s brothers and sisters sung and played music instruments in their church choirs.
Her vocal power first led her to Bebe Cool’s gagamel crew. She didn’t stay long with the band due to other pressing needs.
She quit Gagamel on amicable terms, as she started to impart vocal skills.
Adio has shared the stage with Bebe Cool, Chameleon, Aziz Azion, Maurice Kirya, Radio and Weasel, Miss Patty Moroe from South Africa, Myco Chris, Rema Namakula, Winnie Nwagi, Irene Ntale, Spice Diana, Bruno K, Code 9 band, Ba Afrique band, Big fun Africa among others as a backup or support singer
Talent opens my doors for me.
With the endless list of artistes she has worked with, yearns to collaborate with Maurice Kirya, Eddy Kenzo and Aziz Azion.
She does acoustic performance sessions and has recorded songs like Good morning, Regret, Bambi, Onsuza ntunula among others
Her main challenge, she observes is, promotion and people’s perception of talent. Angel believes that the music industry is in disguise and urges fellow artistes to unite and eliminate the disguise, meaning that those who are talented are not usually given the chance to shine.
