Police officer try to calm down irate supporters

A meeting that was convened to purposely harmonize the worrying NRM factions in Jinja ended up into a fist fight leaving many injured.

NRM candidates and their supporters from Kakira town council and Butagaya Sub County all in Jinja district had been called for a harmonization meeting by the district NRM chairperson Nathan Igeme Nabeta on Wednesday at Busoga square, the headquarters of Jinja district.

However, the meeting ended prematurely with the intervention of police after supporters of the incumbent chairman of Kakira town council John Kamau and his political rival Charles Sande Kabule started trading verbal abuses which ended up in a nasty fight.

Efforts by Nabeta, NRM Chairman Jinja to calm down the irate supporters became futile after one of Kamau’s supporters accused Kabule’s chief campaigner only identified as Hajj Jomo of not being a true Muslim claiming that he (Jomo) eats pork.

This forced Hajj Jomo to storm out of the meeting vowing to avenge on someone and in the ensuing scuffle, he attacked, a one David Omboko Ojwang, the chairman Kakira sugarcane out growers and supporter of Kamau there by engaging him in boxing and kick boxing.

Police led by the Kiira regional commander Edgar Nyabongo intervened to calm the supporters who were turning on one another for a serious fight.

According to Nabeta, the meeting had earlier resolved that NRM flag bearer elections for the two sub counties be nullified and fresh elections organized for purposes of harmony and unity in the party.

“I only urge my party members to aim at unity for party strength because we are members of one family, NRM, who should resolve our issues amicably in order to be able to confront the opponent. My office will investigate the cause of this entire vendetta before we convene another meeting” he said.

Elections in those two sub counties were marred by complaints of irregularities, ballot staffing and connivance with the electoral officials accused of favor individual candidates.
