Bishop calls for calm ahead of elections

The Bishop of Ruwenzori Diocese Reuben Kisembo (Pictured) has called upon presidential and other candidates participating in the electoral process to exhibit a high degree of commitment to National peace by prevailing on their supporters to desist from acts likely to endanger peace during and after the polls.

“Such a commitment will require candidates at all levels including presidential and parliamentary to lead by their example by accepting election results after the elections. That means that those who will win will have to be magnanimous with their victory while losers will need the grace to lose honorably,          “Kisembo said.

Kisembo made the call early this week while at Canon Apollo Core Primary Teachers’ College in Karagwe village Kabarole District where he was presiding over prayers for final year student-teachers preparing to join the teaching profession.

Kisembo’s call comes a few weeks ahead of the national prayers for peaceful elections being organized by the Inter religious council of Uganda (IRCU) in conjunction with the office of the Prime Minister and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) scheduled to take place early next month.
