NRM Presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni has hailed the restoration of peace in the Karamoja sub-region as one of his government’s greatest achievements.

Speaking in Napak District at the close of his campaign tour, Museveni said the peace achieved has laid the groundwork for development and shows his government’s commitment to security and stability.

He attributed the success to unified politics rather than sectarianism and the strengthened national army that restored peace nationwide. Museveni also highlighted progress in roads, electricity, health, education, and water services.

He recalled that local leaders once opposed disarmament, arguing that guns protected them from cross-border raids. They urged him to first disarm communities in Kenya, South Sudan, and Ethiopia, but he declined, saying it was the government’s duty to protect its citizens.

Museveni said he will build on these gains, noting that peace will attract socio-economic development.

Peter Lokeris credited Museveni’s vigilante deployment and disarmament program for ending decades of violence. Richard Loru said 100 reformed warriors have joined groups formed under President Museveni’s directive, adding that Amudat is now the most peaceful district.

Museveni ended his Karamoja campaign in Napak District before proceeding to Kapelebyong District.
