The Uganda Police Force in Butaleja District has launched investigations into a suspected racket behind the vandalism of electricity infrastructure in the area.
The incident occurred on 14 December 2025 at around 7:00 a.m. after the Chairperson of Lubanga Cell in Bufujja Town Council received reports from residents that electrical cables had been vandalized from power poles. The matter was reported to Bufujja Police Station, where the Officer in Charge requested support from the police K9 unit.
A police sniffer dog, K9 Vegas, was deployed to the scene and tracked a human scent to a semi-permanent house belonging to Esero Fred, located approximately 500 meters from the vandalized site. Police said the suspect was not found at home, and efforts to trace and arrest him are ongoing.
A search of the premises led to the recovery of suspected stolen electricity cables and several other electronic items, which police believe are linked to the vandalism of power infrastructure in Butaleja District.
