
The Electoral Commission of Uganda has officially announced the schedule for the 2026 elections, covering the Presidency, Parliament, Local Government Councils, and Special Interest Groups (SIGs). The announcement was made in accordance with Article 61(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda.
The comprehensive electoral calendar outlines polling dates for various elective positions, ensuring all Ugandans are informed and able to participate in a timely and organized manner.
Key Election Dates
The Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, emphasized the importance of adhering to the official dates. "All candidates, their agents and supporters, election observers and the general public are reminded to observe the respective dates and participate in accordance with the guidelines for polling for the respective elective position," he stated.
The key 2026 election dates are as follows:
Presidential and Parliamentary Elections
- President and Members of Parliament (Directly-elected MPs and District Woman Representatives) – 15th January 2026
- National Conference for Election of Workers Representatives to Parliament – 19th January 2026
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Elections
- Councillors representing Youths, Older Persons, Workers, and PWDs at Municipality/City Division – 20th January 2026
- Election of Councillors representing Youths, Older Persons, Workers, and PWDs at District/City level – 29th January 2026
- Election of Councillors representing Youths, Older Persons, Workers, and PWDs at Sub County, Town, or Municipal Division – 30th January 2026
Local Government Council Elections
- District/City Chairpersons, Lord Mayor, Mayors, and Councillors – 22nd January 2026
- Municipality/City Division Chairpersons and Councillors – 27th January 2026
- Sub County/Town/Municipal Division Chairpersons and Councillors – 4th February 2026
Regional and National Conferences
- Regional Conferences for Election of Regional Youth Representatives to Parliament – 28th January 2026
- National Conference for Election of National Female Older Persons Representatives to Parliament – 28th January 2026
- Army Council Meeting for Election of UPDF Representatives to Parliament – 28th January 2026
- Regional Conference for Election of Older Persons Representatives to Parliament – 2nd February 2026
- National Conference for Election of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) Representatives to Parliament – 3rd February 2026
- National Conference for Election of National Female Youth Representative to Parliament – 6th February 2026
Participation and Compliance
The Electoral Commission calls on all stakeholders to follow the guidelines and timelines to ensure smooth and credible elections. Chairperson Justice Byabakama reiterated: “All candidates, their agents and supporters, election observers and the general public are reminded to observe the respective dates and participate in accordance with the guidelines for polling for the respective elective position.”
