Jinja could lose Ushs20bn factory
The Director of Nile Agro industries Ltd only identified as Daily Patel has threatened to relocate his multibillion Agro-based processing factory from Jinja town to Lira town over what he referred to as bad politics in Jinja town.
While speaking to our reporter Patel said Jinja politicians had frustrated his plans to grow his business by denying them land for expansion.
“If I get a potential buyer of my Factory with Ushs 20bn, cooking oil and others have taken many by storm in recent months and shaken existing oil-based producing companies such as Mukwano and Bidco.
This is not the first investment to be relocated from Jinja allegedly over intrigue among politicians.
In 2008, the Chinese government shifted their multi-billion shilling Hospital to Naguru in Kampala after a power struggle between the then district boss Chairman (Rtd) Hannington Basakana and the Mayor of Jinja Alhajji Muhammad Baswari Kezaala over its location.
Whereas Basakana wanted it erected at the proposed district site at Kagoma 20km along Kamuli road, the mayor argued that there was land for such an establishment in the municipality.
This did not augur well with the Chinese investors who instead relocated the multi Billion hospital to Naguru in Kampala.
