Police deny stocking Kibooko for violence
The Police’s comments follow accusations leveled against them by the spokesperson of the Democratic Party Kenneth Paul Kakande during a news conference this week.
Kakande said: “Uganda police force should not prepare for violence but should only prepare for peace. Police has stocked bundles of sticks and cable wires at their headquarters. We understand well that Kayihura has been training crime preventers which is not allowed by law.”
But the Police spokesperson Fred Enanga dismissed Kakande’s allegations as mere propaganda.
“This is serious propaganda by opposition.
Police does not need to stock bundles of sticks and electric cables. As police we are doing our normal preparations because we have enough manpower who are well trained in all fields. In addition we also have standard gadgets such as buttons which are internationally recognized by the world, “said Enanga.
He added: “The manpower we have is enough. The watercan vehicles we stocked is to disperse people in case of violence. This is common even in developed countries like England. I encourage people not buy such communications of opposition which are intended to cause fear in the public.”
Enanga defended crime preventers whom he said are meant to help the Electoral Commission in maintaining peace during elections.
