Winnie Byanyima after getting the honorary degree
Winnie Byanyima, the wife of four-time Uganda presidential contender Kizza Besigye has been awarded an honorary degree for championing gender equality in Uganda and other parts of the world through her leadership of the global charity Oxfam.
Byanyima received the accolade in the presence of his husband Dr. Kizza Besigye and their son Anselm Besigye.
After the award, Winnie delivered the Foundation Lecture on the topic: “Advancing Women’s Rights in an Unequal World: A personal perspective”
A statement from the university’s website praised Byanyima’s role in Oxfam in “empowering people to create a future that is secure, just, and free from poverty.”
