Cameroon horror train accident leaves 55 dead, 600 injured
At least 55 people died when a packed passenger train derailed and overturned in Cameroon on Friday, troche it has been reported. 15 more people were by Friday evening still trapped in the derailed train.
News agencies have reported that the the train was carrying more than 1, 300 people instead of the its regulated capacity of 600. Train employees said wagons had been added to accommodate more passengers.
The train was travelling between the two biggest cities, Yaounde and Douala, when it derailed and overturned.
The train was busier than usual due to landslides caused by heavy rains that have blocked roads across Cameroon.
By the time of publishing this post, more than 600 were reported injured in the accident.
The train service is operated by Bollore, a company that is also licensed in Uganda to operate freight services.
