Onyango Crowned African Player of 2016
Mamelodi Sundowns and Uganda Crane goalie, Denis Masinde Onyango, has been crowned the African Player of the Year 2016 by the Conferedaration of African Football. He beat his teammate, Khama Billiat, a Zimbabwe international and Zambian international, Rainford Kalaba by 252 votes.
Onyango has been on form throughout 2016, making superb saves that led his club, Mamelodi Sundowns, to reach finals of the intercontinental competitions since 2001. Apart from helping the Sundowns in their conquest, both the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title and CAF Champions League, Onyango has been instrumental in the campaigns for Uganda’s of African Cup of Nation (AFCON 2017) where Uganda qualified for the first time in 39 years.
His performance has so perfect that he has been ranked 10th goal keeper in the world beating some of the most influential goal keepers from big clubs like: Peter Cech from Arsenal, Marc Andre Terstagan from Barcelona and Samir Handanovic from FC Intermilano
