Nurses arrested for selling gov’t drugs
Police in Bugiri district have arrested Alex Bakanuze, a nurse at Nabukalu Health Center III in Nabukalu Sub–County in Bugiri district allegedly for selling government procured drugs.
According to Police spokesperson Asan Kasingye, Bakanuze and 5 others; the storekeeper, Alex Kyakabale, a clinic assistant, Modern Birungi, a midwife and two cleaners are being held for allegedly stealing dozens of anti-malarial drugs Coartem from Nabukalu Health Center III.
According to an investigation report by Police, Bakanuze had remained with some of the keys to the store, the day it was broken into.
Kasingye cautioned people whose business is to buy government drugs that police will not spare any efforts to arrest them.
“Am informing the public to stop buying government drugs from private drug pharmacies. That’s why these drugs are labeled not for sale and am calling upon local people also to be very keen on these drugs,” Kasingye said.
