The Nebbi District LCV Chairman, has abandoned his official residence that cost 69 million to renovate for lack of bedding.

But Alenyo said that, he cannot occupy a house without bedding and dining sets, adding that as a chairperson he deserves a comfortable and luxurious accommodation. He said the UGX 69m allocation for the renovation and purchase of furniture was not enough.

However, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Geoffrey Okaka, has said that the house was fully renovated and well-furnished but the district does not provide bedding and dining sets.

Alenyo said he would convene a council meeting to approve more money for bedding and a dining set this financial year. In the last financial year, the district councilors controversially approved the UGX 69m for the renovation of the chairman’s residence.

The controversy arose from the  over execution of the bill of quantities at UGX 49m for major renovation and UGX 20m for the purchase of office and house furniture. According to Jeff Thorwinyowa, the council was forced to approve the money against the pressing need to renovate the offices to host the Social Assistance Grants Empowerment (SAGE) for the elderly and the Speaker’s Office

The house which is located about one km from Nebbi town has since been left for bats, rats and lizards. Peace Atyeronimungu, a resident of Nebbi Municipal Council decried how tax payers money is mismanaged yet such funds can be used to face lift some dilapidated structures in some health  centers.
