A number of people in Uganda design their own homes, often copying from their neighbours’ friends or from newspapers and magazines. Usually, the resultant houses tend to have outdated designs, do not suit the family size nor the landscape of the location.

Now the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has urged Ugandans to make use of professional services of architects and planners to build modern and beautiful homes.

Katikkiro Mayiga made the remarks while officiating at the launch of Twezimbe, a Real Estate television show that will be broadcasting every Monday 8-9pm by Buganda Broadcasting Services BBS Terefayina (TV).

Having Namulondo investments as its main sponsors, the programme hopes to benefit from the symbiotic relationship existing across the broad spectrum of Mengo’s companies including Buganda Land Board and other property related ventures.

Mayiga observed that everyone deserves to sleep in a better house and that’s why the Kingdom is striving to sensitise the general public on better housing policy.

“The population is increasing day and night and we need to plan better housing by not considering size alone but also the beauty of the house. Stop construction of old fashioned houses. Consult experts,” Mayiga advised.

“Some people build houses after seeing their neighbours buildings. This ancient system must stop. You end up using a lot of resources yet experts would have given you a better and affordable plan,” Mayiga said.

Speaking at the Partnership launch between BBS and Namulondo, the Chief Executive Officer of Namulondo Investment Limited Lillian Kaddu applauded BBS Terefayina for the work done to ensure that people get good knowledge on land matters, estates, houses, how to come up with good buildings in the city and all over the country.

Since its creation as a company responsible for maximize value out of the vast portfolio of the Kingdom’s owned commercial estates, Kaddu noted that Namulondo Investments has partnered with a number of organisations including KCCA, BBS TV, SEROMA LIMITED to make sure the role of a property manager is fully understood by the population.

Recently, the company has partnered with Housing Finance Bank to ease the financing of house purchases from the magnificent Mirembe Villas located off the shores of lake victoria at Kigo.
