The Muslim community in Uganda has been advised to maintain the discipline and good hardheartedness they exercised during the Holy Month of Ramadan as the only way of surviving in this chaotic nation.

In his address to a congregation in Kinawataka mosque during Eid El-fitr prayers on Friday, Sheikh Abubakar Tidris Tarzan said that discipline and patience are major sources of peace. “Life without peace is too miserable. We are here but some people outside there are in prison, wars or they are battling sickness. I therefore request you to have discipline and teach your children the Holy Quran.”

Tarzan angrily condemned the killing of people which has rapt the nation. Across the country, many the murder of Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga and his bodyguard brother Saidi Kongo was a unmistakable reference by most sheikhs of how insecurity has left many people puzzled. The duo was killed the other Friday June 8 at Kawanda as Abiriga returned home to break his fast.

According to Tarzan, Islam is not the way of dressing but some body’s behaviors. “Dressing in kanzoo and a cap (Islamic dress codes) does not mean that you’re a Muslim. Bobi Wine and Besigye dressed in them (Islamic dress codes) recently. Are they Muslims?’’ asked Sheikh Tarzan. “Islam is how you behave following the Quran, the Prophet and Allah.”

He however congratulated all Muslims for fasting the holy month of Ramadan and asked them to seek Allah’s guidance in whatever they do in order to avoid diverting from Allah’s will.

“It’s very bad to fast the 30 days and earn nothing from them. Therefore seek God’s guidance in whatever you are doing.”
