URA’s Digital Tax Stamps Start
With effect from this Friday November 1, makers of drinks and beverages like beer, soda, water and juices as well as cigarettes are expected to sell products with digital stamps, according to an announcement by Uganda Revenue Authority.
The stamps are machine-readable papers with security features that are stuck on products or their packaging to prevent counterfeiting, enable tracking and thereby enhance tax compliance by the manufacturers.
Some manufacturers had however expressed concern over possible increase in costs of doing business but URA allayed fears when they said that the stamping machines will be their business.
