Victim of fake Bishop succumbs to hypertension, hundreds crying foul

Engineer Elijah Kisembo thought he was dealing with a man of God when he turned over his longtime savings worth one hundred and fifty million shillings to Fred Ntabazi to manage on his behalf.

Ntabazi had promised to multiply Kisembo’s savings by several folds only for the latter to fall into the jaws of the financial predator posing as a Born Again Pastor.

Ntabazi told Kisembo he was going to invest his money in the business of Forex as well as bitcoins and that his investment would be fetching him ten percent every fortnight.

On the contrary, Ntabazi was living large on billions of money he would con from people who were mistaking him for a financial expert.

Aside from owning a fancy Born Again Church going by the names One Light Ministeries International which occupied several floors on the high value Pio Padre building located in the leafy Upper Nakasero, he ate, dined and leisured at Sheraton Hotel.

Ntabazi had a soft spot for the latest top-notch sports utility vehicles which he was changing like they were running out of fashion.

He kept company of top guns from government as well as from the security circles who were literally worshipping him like a god of sorts thanks to the big money he was lavishing on them.

Because he was leading a pompous life akin to that of an oil Sheikh, one wouldn’t easily tell he was a trick-star.

Kisembo wasn’t the only victim of Ntabazi’s get-rich-quick victim. The loot wiped out loads of cash hundreds of Ugandans handed over to the crafty so-called pastor to multiply.

You may also wish to know and we are telling you that the victims of this scam not only included people who are considered to be naive, it included as well hundreds of educated Ugandans such as lawyers who ought to have known better the dangers posed by such seemingly golden traps.

Sadly, Kisembo has since passed on. He died in part due to depression he developed following the loss of his savings. He had hoped his savings would cushion him from the vagaries of retirement, but alas, Ntabazi stole the savings instead.

Prior to his death, Paul Bangirana, the lawyer who helped Kisembo to try to rescue his money, says the dead man had begged Ntabazi to refund his money so he could go abroad and seek better treatment but without the conman giving heed.

As the people Ntabazi conned mounted all manner of pressure on him to cough up their money, the swindler just woke up one day and went to where no one of the victims seem to have a clue about.

It has been two years now since Ntabazi disappeared. The people whose cash he took filed dozens of lawsuits hoping the courts of law would help them to claim what is theirs from the con-star.

Fortunately, judges at the commercial division of the high court helped to do the needful. Nonetheless the victims can’t enforce the judgments they managed to secure from the courts since Ntabazi who is supposed to make good is untraceable.

” I have done whatever is humanely possible to trace that man. I have paid court brokers. I have hired private investigators. I have even used the police. All I have gained is loss of more money,” a dejected top-tier lawyer based in Kampala mourns.

This man who has practiced law for many years lost a cool one hundred and fifty million shillings to Ntabazi.

We understand that Ntabazi has managed to escape arrest because he has many friends who are holding big offices in State House and within the military.

It is these friends of Ntabazi who have been reportedly hiding him as well as blocking anyone from arresting him.

Ntabazi himself is said to have often advised his victims to go and hang because no one can put him behind bars let alone arrest him.

” I reported to Edith Nakalema ( the State House Anti-graft chief ). She told me she has a lot of cases pending. She told me she can’t therefore take on Nyabazi’s case,” the lawyer who lost one hundred and fifty million shillings to this scam reveals.

Other lawyers privy to this matter concur with their colleague. ” Ntabazi is untouchable because his friends hold big offices in State House. There is no way Nakalema can intervene in this matter,” they contend.

Court brokers who have been trying to track down the fugitive narrate how they have been receiving threats from people calling themselves senior military officers telling them to back off.

” We fear for our lives. We don’t know how to proceed yet we have orders from court to find that man,” they state.

Other sources tell us Ntabazi has been rotating between Kisoro and Rwanda and only sneak into Kampala under protection of his friends holding big offices in State House and within the military.

By the look of things, the hunt for Ntabazi might turn out to be the legendary wild goose chase.
