Tokyo Olympics 2020: Uganda finishes strong 2nd in Africa
Most successful performance in history of Olympics
Uganda has recorded the best ever performance in the history of the Olympics with a global ranking of 35th and second in Africa, only behind Kenya, thanks largely to the double gold victories of Joshua Cheptegei and Peruth Chemtai.
Uganda reached the climax of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games with the participation in the 42km Marathon that took place in the Northern Japanese city of Sapporo.
Despite the disappointing performance of 2012 Olympic Marathon champion Steven Kiprotich, who failed to finish this morning’s race, Uganda’s team are sure to return as heroes with two gold medals, one silver and one bronze.
Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge, won the Marathon in 2 hours 8 minutes, and succes QAsfully defended his 2016 medal, becoming only the third man to do so.
The United States is expected to finish on top with over 110 medals ahead of China which has 87 medals, and far ahead of the hosts Japan with 58 medals.
