Nilestar Trade Link limited, the operator of Nile Star Buses, has halted all passenger transport operations after a series of grave accidents. The company made the announcement in a public notice issued on Thursday, stating that the suspension takes effect immediately to facilitate a thorough review and overhaul of its transport services.
According to the statement, “To our esteemed customers and the general public, we wish to inform you that Nilestar Trade Link Limited has temporarily suspended all passenger transport services effective 6th November 2025.” The company added that while passenger operations are paused, parcel and luggage transport will continue as internal assessments proceed.
This decision follows three separate road accidents involving Nile Star buses in recent weeks. About a month ago, a Nile Star bus traveling from Kampala to Yumbe collided head-on with a Platinum Bus in Kiryandongo District. The tragic crash claimed 43 lives across both buses, as well as those in a truck and a private vehicle registered in Congo.
On Wednesday evening, another Nile Star bus en route to Arua overturned in Kololo Village, Kiryandongo District, after the driver reportedly swerved to avoid a motorcycle, leaving several passengers with serious injuries. Less than a day later, on Thursday morning, an executive Nile Star bus traveling from Arua to Kampala struck a motorcycle and its rider in Wobulenzi Town, critically injuring both.
These back-to-back incidents have caused public alarm and frustration, with many travelers calling for stricter regulation and improved safety practices in the transport sector.
In Arua City, the suspension has been largely welcomed by residents and frequent passengers. Vincent Akuma, a businessman who regularly travels with Nile Star and lost a colleague in the earlier crash, said the move was necessary. “Nile Star should take ample time to review its operations before resuming. This is a busy period, but people’s lives must come first,” Akuma said.
