Veteran broadcaster Allan Kasujja has been appointed Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre following a directive from President Yoweri Museveni.
The appointment is contained in a letter dated December 27, 2025, addressed to the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and relates to administrative matters at the Media Centre that had been raised earlier in November.
According to the correspondence, the President indicated that the appointment of Kasujja had been discussed previously at senior leadership level. He subsequently instructed the Minister of Information and Communication Technology and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, to initiate the formal process of appointing Kasujja to the position.
The directive also called for the assessment of additional officials who may be considered for other leadership roles at the Media Centre, including the position of Deputy Executive Director.
Kasujja replaces Ofwono Opondo, who resigned from the role in April 2025 after announcing his intention to pursue elective politics.
Extensive Media Experience
Kasujja brings more than 30 years of experience in broadcast journalism, spanning radio, television, and international media platforms.
He began his media career in Uganda in the 1990s at Sanyu FM before moving to Capital FM, where he worked on several programmes, including The Big Breakfast. He later became widely known as the host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Uganda, a role he has held since 2011.
Kasujja subsequently joined the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), where he spent over a decade as a senior presenter on the World Service programme Newsday and hosted the Africa Daily podcast. He left the BBC in August 2025 after 13 years based in London.
In addition, Kasujja co-moderated Uganda’s 2016 presidential debate, marking a milestone in the country’s electoral history.
The Uganda Media Centre is responsible for coordinating government communication, facilitating official briefings, and managing engagement between state institutions and the media.
Kasujja is expected to assume office after the completion of the required administrative procedures.
