Uganda’s Prime Minister, Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, has officially launched the construction of the National Coffee Training Centre at Kyambogo in Kampala, in a major step towards strengthening the country’s coffee industry.

The planned centre is expected to play a key role in developing Uganda’s coffee value chain by providing a national hub for skills development, research, innovation, quality improvement and value addition.

The initiative is aimed at supporting the growth and competitiveness of Uganda’s coffee sector through improved knowledge, technical skills and capacity development among stakeholders across the industry.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) was represented at the launch by the State Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Desire Muhooza, and the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Maj. Gen. David Kasura-Kyomukama.

Other government officials who attended the event included the State Minister for Local Government, Hon. Justine Nameere, and the State Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi.

The ministers joined other stakeholders in witnessing the milestone, which marks an important step in Uganda’s efforts to strengthen its coffee industry.

Through its focus on training, research, innovation and quality improvement, the National Coffee Training Centre is expected to contribute to building a more competitive coffee sector and supporting value addition within Uganda’s coffee value chain.

The construction of the centre marks a significant development for MAAIF and Uganda’s wider coffee industry as the country continues its efforts to enhance the capacity of coffee sector stakeholders.
