In 2021: No Besigye, No Mbabazi, No Bukenya, No Otunnu, No Mao, No Muntu, No Rugunda, No Museveni …
when Uganda will be holding the first general election after the fast approaching 2016 0ne, all our today’s popular politicians will be no more.
Museveni will be tired and retired. Besigye will be retired after a fairly unsuccessful political journey. Mbabazi will be too old and proud to compete with ‘his children’.
The good doctor, will be busy in rice growing and trading. Olara Otunnu? It’s not clear where he will be and what he will be doing. Major General Mugisha Muntu will most likely be enjoying a quiet out-of-politics time drafting a most-likely to be a best seller. Now, for Nobert Mao, he will most likely be the Chancellor of Gulu University.
Yoweri Museveni, he will most likely be the wealthiest oil dealer in Uganda, the biggest rancher, and the biggest Real estate mogul. And all those other politicians we know today, will surely be sitting somewhere in splendid isolation.
So who will be there if we may ask? How time changes everything!
That said, something needs to be talked about. We all knew the above mentioned gentlemen would have passed their date for sale in 2021. We therefore expected them to do everything to get into power before they, by choice, disappear into political oblivion.
Instead, they have chosen ‘to all loose’. Dr Kiiza Besigye has decided that if it’s not him then he doesn’t mind Museveni continuing to be president of our republic. The way things look in the Opposition corner, the game is about over before it begins in earnest.
So why were these guys in Opposition in the first place if they were not interested in acquiring power? Kumbe these men have all this time been taking their supporters for a ride, swaggering as serious when in reality they are fake politicians.
We should have listened to Charles de Gaulle when he said ‘Politics is too serious a matter to be left to the politicians’ and when Luc Besson stated: ‘It’s always the small people who change things. It’s never the politicians or the big guys. I mean, who pulled down the Berlin wall? It was all the people in the streets. The specialists didn’t have a clue the day before’.
Will Rogers seems to have put it best: ‘Everything is changing. People are taking their comedians seriously and the politicians as a joke’.
This is our sincere request: Please look around for good people and force them to come up and take over the leadership of this country ‘in 2021’. And if you don’t may you forever keep QUIET.
