The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), party has asked Government to equip hospitals with better health facilities.

At its weekly press conference this week, the party spokesperson, Micheal Orach Osinde, called upon the Government to not only revise the budget allocation to the health sector but ensure that the health facilities are better equipped and with more safety.

” The speaker of Parliament, Hon. Rebecca Kadaga last week announced that she would advocate for the revision and increase of provisions for the health sector. The budget of Uganda 2017/18 has cut the allocation to health sector. These cuts will contribute further to the poor condition of health facilities especially in rural areas,” Osinde said.

Osinde said that increasing the allocation in the budgetary system will not be enough to improve the health sector of the country, since most of qualified doctors are looking for better opportunities abroad thus leaving the medical sector with lesser-qualified medical personnel. ”This increases the cost of medical care which has led to increased self-medication which increases emergency cases in hospitals because people go to drug shops for treatment without proper diagnosis,” he continued.

While, UPC recognizes that the Government’s efforts of improving infrastructural development which has enabled better communication, connectivity for providing power and water which has led to industrialization, Osinde, however said that some roads are poorly-made, market and commercial buildings  are deficient and this is evidenced by several fire outbreaks in Kampala.

Osinde also urged the Government to take part in the coming 95th United Nations International Day of Co-operatives scheduled on 1st June 2017, in Mbale, so as to be part of the resolutions which will be adopted to improve the marketing of Uganda’s agricultural output.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party (DP) has agreed with Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) that those who took the UGX 6.5 billion refund the money.

Mao, praised COSASE for  doing great work for the country by ordering  all those who received the handshake money to give it  back.

However, Mao was worried about the former minister of Minerals, Syda Bumba, who signed off the oil forms without reading them which shows unprofessionalism. He advised the Government to set up a committee to probe the matter.
