ICPAU Launches 2025 Accountancy Service Awards, Set for October Ceremony
The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has officially launched the 2025 edition of the prestigious Accountancy Service Awards (ASA), a flagship celebration honouring excellence and integrity in the accounting profession. The announcement was made on August 13 by CPA Sandra Batte, Chair of the ASA Committee, at a press briefing in Kampala.
Speaking at the launch, CPA Batte underscored the importance of the Awards in recognising individuals and organisations that embody professional ethics, deliver exceptional service, and make significant contributions to national development. “These Awards are more than accolades—they are a benchmark for excellence, leadership, and service in the accountancy profession,” she said.
First introduced in 2015, the ASA have become a cornerstone of professional recognition in Uganda’s accounting sector, boosting career prospects, strengthening trust between accountants and clients, and enhancing the personal and institutional brands of winners. Over the past decade, they have honoured both practitioners and institutions whose work has advanced the profession locally and internationally.
A Stand-Alone Celebration of Excellence
In a significant change, the 2025 ASA will, for the first time, be hosted as an independent event, separate from the ICPAU Annual Seminar. The ceremony is scheduled for 3 October 2025. Nominees will be drawn from submissions by ICPAU members, students, and the general public, before undergoing a rigorous selection process by the Institute’s Members Services Committee.
The 2025 edition will feature eight award categories:
- ICPAU Gold Service Award
- CPA of the Year Award
- Young Accountant of the Year Award
- Woman Accountant of the Year Award
- Finance Team of the Year Award
- Accounting Firm of the Year Award
- Institutional Partner of the Year Award
- Unique Humanitarian Award
Looking Back, Looking Forward
Reflecting on last year’s edition, CPA Mary Theresa Kiggundu took home the Woman Accountant of the Year Award, while CPA Joseph Osako earned the Young Accountant of the Year title. The distinguished Gold Service Award went to CPA Keto Kayemba, and Pastor Gary Skinner received the Unique Humanitarian Award for his exceptional contributions to humanity in Uganda.
Institutional honours in 2024 included the Uganda National Oil Company as Institutional Partner of the Year, and CPA Uganda – Ankole Region as Regional Members Network of the Year. In addition, John Bosco Ntangaare was granted ICPAU Honorary Membership in recognition of his outstanding service to the profession.
An Eye on 2025 Winners
The winners of the 2025 ASA will be unveiled at the October ceremony, with organisers promising an event that not only celebrates professional achievement but also inspires the next generation of accountants to uphold the highest standards of the profession.
“Through these Awards, we remind ourselves and the country that the accountancy profession is integral to transparency, accountability, and economic growth,” CPA Batte concluded.
The 2025 ASA are expected to attract nominations from across the country, highlighting the breadth of talent and dedication within Uganda’s accounting community.
