Newly elected Kyabazinga meets Museveni
Two days after clinching the highly contested race for the Kyabazinga (top cultural head of Busoga) William Gabula Nadiope wasted no time to meet in meeting President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday.
Museveni hosted the new Kyabazinga along with a six-man delegation of his subjects that escorted him to State House in Entebbe.
It is little surprising that the meeting came in a haste to the most powerful office in the land considering the six year power struggle between Nadiope and Prince Columbus Wambuzi, according to Museveni who congratulated Gabula.
Museveni said: “I’m happy you were voted for by a quorum of eight people as required by the constitution. The past elections had a problem due to quorum.’’ he said. Busoga, unlike other kingdoms in Uganda, is a constitutional monarch whose king is chosen among the 11 hereditary chiefs.
The president asked the chiefs to unite the people of Busoga to support the kingdom instead of splitting.
President Museveni said election of the Kyabazinga will pave way to unite the Basoga to focus on developing region
The newly elected Kyabazinga His Highness William Gabula thanked the President for restoring peace in Busoga Region and Uganda at large.
The official coronation of the Kyabazinga is scheduled for December 13, 2014.
