KCCA hires promoter to scout for music talent
The musically gifted young people in Kampala have a reason to smile.
Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) is teaming up with one of the reputable music promotion firms in town to skill such promising artists.
The music promoter is Balunywa promotions. According to Deputy Lord Mayor Sarah Kanyike, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.
KCCA have tasked Balunywa to scout for talent for the young sters and groom them into perfection.
“Good enough the same has been embraced by the technical wing of KCCA led by Jennifer Musisi Ssemakula. We are working in tandem in order to make the campaign a success, ” Kanyike says.
Kanyike observes that since today’s stars such as Jose Chameleon and Mesach Ssemakula, just like others before them faded off eventually, there is need to nurture new stars who will entertain future generations besides making it easy for talented people to earn from their God-given gifts.
Juma Balunywa, the boss of Balunywa Music Events says he has been instructed by KCCA to tap music talents from all villages in Kampala.
Balunywa plans to organize singing competitions starting from the parish level through divisions up to district.
“Winners from each of the five divisions of Kampala will then compete at the district level (KCCA) and the overall winner will win a bull,” the deputy lord mayor reveals.
According to Kanyike, the winner will be announced at the Kampala city carnivore to be held in September. Sarah says the winner will walk away with a rather awkward prize of a bull.
The talent search exercise will probably attract the praise of NRM politicians in Kampala who had a similar idea of training young people how to work as a way of fighting youth unemployment.
