Deploying existing technologies better that investing in research for new solutions, says Calestous Juma
Prof. Calestous Juma, has called for the adoption of existing technologies as a cheaper andviable path to addressing our development challenges than investing in developing new solutions.
Calestous, a Kenyan born academic and a Professor of the Practice of International Development and Director of the Science, Technology, and Globalization Project at the Belfer Center, Harvard University has challenged the predominant view that research necessarily leads to products.
Rather Calestous argues that: “There is ample evidence to suggest that in Africa’s case a more viable approach would be to start with deploying existing technologies. It is through such a practical process that a more relevant research is likely to emerge.”
